Brief Description about the Project:

  • This study is collaboration between the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and St John’s Research Institute (SJRI), Bangalore funded by the US National Institute of Mental Health. It is a 5-year observational study designed to evaluate a real-time, wireless monitoring pill box used by People Living with HIV (PLHIV), who are taking antiretroviral medications. This novel adherence measure will be validated with a hair drug concentration measure of medication ingestion and HIV viral load. The final phase of the study will evaluate pill box reminder features in a pilot trial.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Providing software and hardware technical support for the use of a wireless, real-time monitoring pill box device under the supervision of the Project Manager and study investigators

Key Skills:

  • Ability to handle the necessary hardware and software technical skills
  • Knowledge on Embedded platforms, Arduino, C++, python, etc. and experience with implementing IOT solutions
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to establish rapport and work effectively with individuals of different ethnicities, socio-economic status, caste, gender and sexual orientation
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and travel

Specific Activities:

  • Provide technical support for the device hardware including the PCB to ensure timely implementation of the real time adherence assessment
  • Communicating progress via weekly reports
  • Debug any hardware issues that arise during the course of the study
  • Daily monitoring of the web-based interface
  • Collaborating with the study data manager to ensure that the real time data is entered into the study database
  • Debug any software issues that arise with respect to the website and PCB
  • Trouble shooting off-line issues with the participants over phone and during home visits in the field
  • Regular communication with assessment and tracking staff
