Brief Description about the Project:

  • This study is collaboration between the University of California San Francisco and St. John’s Research Institute, funded by the US National Institute of Mental Health. This cluster RCT was designed to implement and evaluate an intervention to primary health centres on outcomes in patients dually diagnosed with mental illness and cardiovascular disease/diabetes in 50 Primary Health Clinics in rural Karnataka.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of and adherence to the intervention protocol
  • Coordinating transportation of intervention staff to/from intervention sites
  • Preparation and transportation of all Healthy Living Group materials and supplies to intervention sites
  • Healthy Living Group scheduling and tracking
  • Tracking participant attendance at Healthy Living Groups
  • Maintaining all intervention trackers and uploading to UCSF Box on a monthly basis
  • Completing a weekly intervention report to the UCSF team and responding to inquiries in a timely manner
  • Checking forms (i.e. initial screening, confirmatory screening, baseline assessment questionnaires, tracking forms, consent forms) for completeness or errors and bringing any errors or missing data to the attention of the Assessment Coordinator and Data Manager
  • Maintaining regular contact with the Nurse Case Manager at each intervention PHC
  • Informing the PHC Nurse Case Manager about participants who endorse moderate depression during baseline assessment, who will then request the ASHA worker to contact the participant and set up an appointment for them to meet with the PHC medical officer
  • Following up to ensure participants keep their appointment with the PHC Medical Officer
  • Facilitating weekly calls between the PHC Medical Officers and the consulting psychiatrists
  • Ensuring the supply of antidepressants at intervention PHCs
  • Ensuring that all intervention staff members are trained on intervention and human subjects procedures before they start working in the field
  • Supervising and monitoring the performance of the other intervention team members and reporting back to the Study Manager at the end of every day
  • Reporting back to the Study Manager about any intervention-related issues, participant feedback or any problems encountered in the field
