Brief Description about the Project:

  • This study is collaboration between the University of California San Francisco and St John’s Research Institute, funded by the US National Institute of Mental Health. This cluster RCT was designed to implement and evaluate an intervention to primary health centres on outcomes in patients dually diagnosed with mental illness and cardiovascular disease/diabetes in 50 Primary Health Clinics in rural Karnataka.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Blood collection, centrifuge of samples, proper storage of samples and travel to Ramanagara district daily.

  • Ability to communicate fluently in Kannada and English

Specific Activities:

  • Provide training and ongoing support to PHC staff in the collaborative care model
  • Assist in conducting health fairs in 25 villages during the study recruitment phase
  • Assist in recruitment at health fairs and screening, as needed
  • Perform safe blood collection for all participants and prepare samples to be sent for testing
  • Assist the Project Manager and Field Coordinator with procurement and shipment of all laboratory project supplies that are needed on site
  • Assist Data Manager in maintaining all laboratory data
  • Assist in maintaining lab records as well as documenting the training process for the PHC staff
