Brief Description about the Project:

  • The main aim of the project is to test the nutritional efficacy of providing an animal or plant protein source that is adjusted for digestible protein content with adequate fat (as energy percent), in preventing linear growth (length-for-age z-score) faltering or promoting growth, in infants 6 months onwards. To achieve this, first a situational analysis will be conducted on the macro- and micronutrient quality of current complementary feeds consumed by infants 6-12 months of age in Taluka’s of Davanagere. The macro- and micronutrients deficit of existing complementary feeds (± breastfeeding) identified through the situational analysis will be used to formulate a milk- and legume-based Nutrimix (multigrain mix) with adequate quantity of fat and micronutrients that will reduce the risk of nutrient inadequacy for the target population. Once the acceptability of the new Nutrimix is established in the target population (6 to 12 months infants), there will be an intervention with the two formulations in 6 + 1 month’s infants for a period of 6 months along with IYCF and WASH counselling.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team/supporting the work of other healthcare professionals
  • Should have computer skills with basic knowledge about data entry
  • Ability to effectively deal with team dynamics to ensure work on projects is conducted on a timely fashion
  • Should have experience/capability in planning diets
  • Should have ability to motivate subjects to adhere to diet intervention
  • Should be able to administer questionnaire and interview subjects in local languages, particularly on diet recalls

Specific Activities:

  • Travelling to study sites
  • Collecting and authenticating data collection forms (commonly known as case report forms)
