Brief Description about the Project:

We intend developing a behavioural measure that can help identify children who have autism or likely to manifest such signs before they are 2 years of age. Children between 12 and 18 months of age will be assessed in detail with regard to their development. Focus group discussions with parents and professionals will help to develop this tool.

The initial version of the tool will be in two samples of infants - those at risk for autism and those without any risk for autism. These children will be assessed once again after 6 months. The final version of the tool will be developed after analysis of the data.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting professionals in the fields of psychiatry, paediatrics, psychology, special education and allied fields for focus group discussions
  • Developing, testing and finalizing the questionnaire
  • Recruiting infants for the study from community and hospital based paediatric offices
  • Administering assessment (infants and their families)
  • Collecting, estimating and analysis of data
  • Following up with the participants 6 months after the initial round of assessments have taken place

  • To administer various developmental and neuro-psychological assessment tools
  • To handle data

Specific Activities:

  • Identifying professionals and family for focus group discussions
  • Conduct of focus group discussions and documenting the discussions
  • Finalizing the items for the questionnaire as each round of focus group discussions are completed and assessments are done
  • Selecting and liaising with identified paediatricians throughout the study
  • Collating the results of the developmental neuro-psychological assessments
  • Preparing spreadsheets with all the data
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data
  • Maintenance of expense sheets
  • Any other clinical and academic responsibilities allocated by the PI
  • Preparing interim and final reports and liaising with ICMR/ SJRI as required
