Stable Isotopic Techniques in Human Nutrition – Introductory Workshop

SJRI is planning to conduct a two-day introductory course on “Stable Isotopic Techniques in Human Nutrition”.   The proposed course will help to build capacity and train young professionals in the use of stable isotopic techniques in nutrition.  Since the potential participants of the course are from academic and research background, this training will help them to start using stable isotopes in their nutrition related research and answer questions related to nutrients, body composition and energy expenditure. 

Who Can Apply:
Potential candidates may be currently involved in nutrition, clinical, research, program, policy, or laboratory work, including medical students, physicians and allied health professionals. Junior faculty in medicine and public health at academic institutions throughout India are also invited to participate in this training program.

Date: June 12-13th, 2017

Course Fee:
There is no course fee. The candidates will be selected on competitive selection method. The candidates will be provided with the course reading material and handouts.

Accommodation & Travel:
Accommodation (Twin sharing basis) arrangements at St. Johns will be made by SJRI. Breakfast & Lunch will be provided.

Travel Reimbursement will not be made - You will have to arrange for your own travel.

The Course will cover:
Didactic lectures and small group hands-on sessions on the following topics:

  • The use of stable isotopic methods in public health nutrition
  • Estimation of energy expenditure using doubly labelled water technique
  • Use of stable isotopes in assessing breast milk intake
  • Assessing Vitamin A Status using stable isotopes
  • Stable isotopic approaches to assess iron bioavailability
  • Hands on session with Data sets for body composition, lactation energy expenditure and iron metabolism.
