St. John's - HRM - EBM Course
This was a one-week course (18th to 23rd November, 2013) in Health Research Methods and Evidence Based Medicine conducted by the Division of Clinical Research and Training in collaboration with McMaster University, Canada.
The Karnataka Medical Council awarded accreditation and 11 credit points for this workshop.
The workshop was designed for faculty, postgraduate and PhD students from medical, nursing and pharmacy colleges, ethics committee members, regulators and health policy makers.
Of the total 142 that registered, 91 attended this workshop who represented over 30 institutions from six different countries. 9 of the participants were from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, England, Kenya and Tanzania. There were 82 participants from 86 cities of India. 73 of the participants were from medical background, 3 from nursing, 3 from pharmacy and 12 from various other backgrounds including ethics committee members, research scientists and public health.
The course methods consisted of one week full day sessions in the form of 21 interactive lectures, 4 small group Zen project discussions, 4 statistical practical sessions, 4 journal clubs and 4 project presentations.
The participants rated this workshop as a well conducted and high quality learning experience. They appreciated the group activities on Zen project discussions, project presentations, journal clubs and the statistical demonstrations with hands on experience as unique opportunities to strengthen their skills in conducting and leading future research projects. They also highlighted that the most important take home message from this workshop is the need for unselfish collaboration.
