One Week International Course in Health Research Methodology and Evidence Based Medicine (October 09-13, 2017)

We from the Division of Clinical Research & Training (DCRT) at St. John's have been conducting courses in Health Research Methods, Evidence Based Medicine and Data Management in collaboration with McMaster University, Canada and supported by the NIH, USA, since 2009 as part of the Centre of Excellence Program.

The Karnataka Medical Council accredited and awarded 6 credit points for this course.

The course was designed for faculty and postgraduate students from medical, nursing and pharmacy colleges, ethics committee members, regulators and health policy makers.

We had 99 participants who represented 33 institutions from 18 cities from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Australia.

The faculty were from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, Eternal Heart Care Centre, Jaipur, AIIMS, Bhopal, Bengaluru, McMaster University and University of Toronto, Canada.

We had 19 interactive lectures, 4 small group Zen protocol discussions, 3 statistical practical sessions, 4 journal clubs and 4 project presentations.

The group activities included four journal clubs (Registry/Cross Sectional Study, Case Control, Randomised Controlled Trial and Systematic Review/Meta Analysis) and four project presentations (Registry/Cross Sectional Study, Cohort Study, Randomised Controlled Trial Design and Case Control)

The course ended on 13th October, 2019, with a valedictory function & Hi- tea at which prizes were distributed.

Certificates of CME accreditation and participation were given to candidates who had attended all the sessions. The outcome of the course was to enhance the awareness in clinical research methods and evidence based practice.
