Courses in Molecular Biology Techniques

Sep 15 - Nov 20, 2018

The St. John’s Research Institute (SJRI) is a part of the St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, which is run by the CBCI Society for Medical Education. From its inception, St. John’s has set before it an ideal of excellence in academic courses as well as service to society as a result of which it has truly become holistic both in its outlook and in its approach to the problems of community health. The Nadathur Lab for breast cancer research in the Division of Molecular Medicine, SJRI, has been involved in investigating the biological basis of those aspects of breast cancer that are exaggerated in Indian women. The department is now inviting applications for short term courses (theory, demo and hands on sessions) on:

Course 1: GENE EXPRESSION ANALYSIS OF FORMALIN FIXED TISSUES

Course 2: PROTEIN DETECTION METHODS BY IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY AND IMMUNOFLUORESCENCE ASSAYS

Training Theme/Objectives:

  1. Gene expression analysis of formalin fixed tissues: Includes basics of PCR, methods of primer design, extraction of nucleic acids, cDNA conversion, Real time PCR, normalization and interpretation of results.
  2. Protein detection methods by Immunohistochemistry and Immunofluorescence: Tissue processing, immunohistochemistry of tissues, immunofluorescence on tissue and cell lines, imaging and interpretation.
