Brief Description about the Project:

  • This study is collaboration between the University of California San Francisco and St. John’s Research Institute, funded by the US National Institute of Mental Health. This cluster RCT is designed to implement and evaluate an intervention to primary health centres on outcomes in patients dually diagnosed with mental illness and cardiovascular disease / diabetes in 50 Primary Health Clinics in rural Karnataka.

Core Responsibilities:

  • The study social workers are responsible for the outreach, tracking, interviewing and retention of study participants. They will serve as participant liaison to minimize loss to attrition of study participants. The incumbents will undergo extensive training in contact tracing and participant confidentiality as they pertain to the study protocol.

Key Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of / interest in the conduct of behavioural health research
  • Demonstrated knowledge of / interest in rural health
  • Demonstrated understanding of contact tracing, survey administration and interviewing techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to establish rapport and work effectively with individuals of different ethnicities, socio-economics status, caste, gender and sexual orientation

Specific Activities:

  • Consenting and enrolling eligible study participants
  • Administering tracking form to study participants
  • Administering questionnaire to study participants
  • Scheduling follow-up visits
  • Mailing postcards to study participants reminding them of their involvement in the study, providing them with a follow-up date and re-issuing study contact information
  • Contacting and rescheduling participants who fail to present at their scheduled follow-up assessments
  • Ensuring accuracy of contact information during follow-up assessments, making necessary contact information changes in the project database
