Brief Description about the Project 

The study entitled “India Child Growth Standards Research Initiative: A Prospective Cohort Study to Develop Growth and Development Standards in 0 to 24 months Indian Children”- UNNATI, is a prospective cohort study planned to be conducted across 6 regions (North, South, East, West, Central and Nort-East) of India to develop updated growth and neurodevelopmental standards for children from 0-24 months under optimal biological, socioeconomic, and behavioral conditions. This study will measure childhood growth and development, develop normative growth curves, neurodevelopmental charts in children born in an environment without major biological, socio-behavioral, and economic constraints to growth among Indian Children 0-24 months of age.

Preferred Qualifications: MSC Life Sciences / Nutrition / MPH

Experience: 

Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in maternal and child healthcare.

Desirable:

  •  Experience in neonatal care, breastfeeding support, or community health programs. · Training in early childhood development and nurturing care.

Preferred Language: English, Kannada, Hindi

Location: Bangalore

Salary: Rs. 36,400/- per month

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible for overall activities of the research project at SJRI representing the South Zone of the project as well as at the different field site.

Key duties include:

  • Assist in prenatal check-ups, monitoring maternal vitals (blood pressure, weight, fetal heart rate)
  • Provide guidance on maternal nutrition, prenatal exercises, and hygiene, Educate expecting mothers on the importance of antenatal visits and fetal development.
  • Support mothers with postnatal recovery, lactation, and wound care (C-section or vaginal delivery)
  • Provide breastfeeding counselling and address common lactation challenges.
  • Conduct routine newborn assessments, including APGAR scoring, weight, and feeding patterns.
  • Guide parents on newborn hygiene, swaddling,safe sleep, and immunization schedules.·Educate caregivers on proper breastfeeding techniques and complementary feeding after six months.
  • Monitor infant growth and development milestones, flagging potential delays.
  • Assist in the prevention and management of common infant illnesses (e.g., colic, fever, diarrhea).
  • Maintain detailed patient records, including maternal and infant health progress.
