Brief Description about the Project:

             This 24-month double-blind, RCT is being conducted in participants with moderate to severe COPD with history of at least one exacerbation requiring systemic corticosteroids/ antibiotics or both in the past 24 months. After obtaining informed consent, participants will receive a test dose of 1.25mg bisoprolol. Heart rate, BP and FEV1 will be monitored for 2 hours. If no adverse effects, participants will be randomized to receive once daily: Bisoprolol 5mg (1.25- 5mg, dependent on tolerated dose) OR Matched placebo Treatment will continue for 24 months, or until the required number of primary events is achieved, whichever is shorter.

Key Skills

Understands the protocol, able to enter data in Ecrf, competent in various applications of MS Office, good communication skills in at least English and local language

Core Responsibilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of study procedures
  • Coordinating between sponsor and PI/Co-Is for scheduling visits, meetings
  • Communication with patients
  • Document handling and submission to IEC, regulatory agency
  • Record keeping and data entry

Specific Activities

  • Communication with recruited patients, facilitating informed consent
  • Data entry into CRF and/or eCRF and Data log for storage/ usage of IMP
  • Checking and responding to e-mail mail communication from sponsor
  • Assisting in randomizing patients and coordinating performance of necessary tests before inclusion
  • Administering initial dose of IMP under supervision of PI/Co-I
  • Scheduling follow-up visits, Telephonic follow-up of recruited patients
  • Compliance checking with respect to medication intake
  • Coordinating disbursal of compensation for patient visits
  • Paperwork for AEs and SAE under supervision of PI/Co-Is
