Online Course on Research Ethics Committee (REC)

Mar 01,2020

This web-based course can be taken up at one’s own free time and convenience. It provides an opportunity for new/old, busy ethics committee members and researchers who are unable to travel to learn and update their knowledge on Ethics Committees (ECs).

>  The complete duration of this course is 8 hours, but it can be completed over a period of one month
>  Upon successful completion, participant will receive a Course Completion certificate from St. John’s Research Institute

Course Objectives:
The challenges of conducting human health research are more than technical or financial — they are also moral, requiring us to conduct health research of the highest standards.

The main objective of this course is to introduce basic ethical concepts useful for the ethics review of research protocols involving human participants and to link the technical aspects such as epidemiologic research designs, basic biostatistics and health research methods relevant to the scientific assessment of research protocols.

The materials presented in this course are to serve as a starting-point for a basic understanding of research ethics as well as health research designs.

We invite you to read all the modules along with the exercises and complete the entire course. In addition, for it to be of practical application in your regular work, we encourage you to:

>  Review a study protocol along with a reading of the relevant portions of this course
>  Attend REC meetings and see how the material presented here matches with the conduct of the meeting
>  Participate in REC processes and see how the material is in synch with the usual processes

And get back to us for clarifications and also to provide feedback and suggestions on ways to improve the course.
