a) Background

Heart failure (HF) is a rapidly increasing disease worldwide but there is no

global HF study that documents demographics, socioeconomic and clinical factors, diagnostic and management patterns, etiology, biomarkers, comorbidities, treatments, quality of life, barriers to care and outcomes in all parts of the world. Such knowledge is essential in the prevention and treatment of this global disease.

b) Objective

A global registry to study the demographics, socioeconomic and clinical factors, etiologies, pathophysiology, management, barriers to care and outcomes of heart failure patients.

c) Methods

This is a prospective global registry study of approximately 20,000? 25,000 HF patients enrolled over 5 years. Baseline data will be obtained on demographic and socioeconomic data, clinical and laboratory variables, echocardiography, HF etiology, medication use, management patterns,

quality of life, barriers to care and health systems. Six?month, 12?month, 18?month and 24?month follow?up data will be obtained to determine changes in management, and patient outcomes. A sub?study of approximately 4000?5000 patients to measure frailty, cognitive and lung function, mental health, medication adherence, patient?reported barriers to care, dietary assessment, and collection of blood and urine samples for central analysis will additionally be performed.

d) Sample size

20,000?25,000 patients enrolled over 5 years from North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Detailed sub?study of approximately 4000?5000 patients. Minimum follow?up of 2 years in all patients

e) Study update

Total 23344 patients have been enrolled in the main study from 257 participating sites and 40 countries. In India 2212 patients have been recruited from 9 sites .Globally 4195 patients have been enrolled in the substudy from 84 sites in 29 countries. In India 483 patients have been recruited from 7 sites in the substudy.

Recruitment is completed and followup is on going.
