Understanding the determinants of adiposity among newborns of Indian ancestry in Canada and India. The South Asian Birth Cohort

The primary objective of this longitudinal observation study is to examine the environmental determinants of a newborn’s body composition, birth weight and length across 3 diverse environments that include an urban and rural cohort of pregnant mothers and children in Karnataka and an urban cohort of mothers and children of South Asian origin in urban Canada. The environmental variables include various antenatal, maternal and paternal factors, home environment, pregnancy factors and early feeding practices. In addition, we aim to study the association between specific micronutrient status (Vitamin B12, Homocysteine, Methylmalonic acid) with gestational weight gain, birth weight and body composition.
