“Dr. Tony Raj, Dean, SJRI, has been on the Leadership Group for the GLoCal Fellowship program since 2016.
He is also the site Principal Investigator in India for the recently awarded NIH-Fogarty Training Grant titled ‘University of California Launching Future Leaders in Global Health Research Training Program’.
Major Goals: This program supports year-long global health fellowships for advanced UC doctoral and professional students, US post-doctoral fellows, and post-doctoral fellows from 21 partner institutions in low- and middle-income countries. This program will engage trainees in an intensive 12-month research project conducted at one of the affiliated international research sites. It aims to produce multidisciplinary global health leaders and strengthen the network of research and training across UC campuses and its international partnering institutions.
On May 24th the GloCal Health Fellowship held its first Site PI Council meeting. The Site PI Council is meant to improve communication between our 21 partner institutions around the world with the leadership of GloCal. We anticipate that improved communication will help to make sure that the program is more responsive to the needs of our partners, and that our partners provide feedback to the program and Fogarty International Center leadership. In addition, the Council will meet four times per year to help create a greater sense of community and collaboration between sites within our global regions.
