This study underline work in maternal and child health involving pregnant mothers, infants and school children, particularly addressing the nutrition during pregnancy and body composition in infants and school children. Identifying genetic factors underlying maternal de novo lipogenesis (DNL) and infant body fat and its interaction with gut microbiome

Project Research Scientist I (Non-Medical) - [Bioinformatician]

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Statistical Genetics, or a related field.

                                        Preference for candidates with experience in GWAS, Mendelian randomization, PRS, and microbiome analysis.

Experience: Both freshers and experienced may apply, preference for those with experience.

Age Limit: 35 Years

Salary: Rs. 72,800/- per month

Location: Bangalore

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform genome-wide association studies (GWAS) using large-scale genotypic and phenotypic datasets.
  • Conduct Mendelian randomization analyses using the UK Biobank dataset and infer causal relationships between genetic variants, biomarkers, and disease outcomes.
  • Develop, validate, and apply polygenic risk scores (PRS) for prediction of disease risk and stratification of individuals.
  • Process and analyze microbiome whole metagenome sequencing data, including taxonomic profiling, diversity metrics, and functional pathway analysis.
  • Implement rigorous data quality control, imputation, and statistical modeling pipelines.
  • Collaborate with project coordinators, molecular biologists, nutrition scientists, and clinicians to interpret bioinformatics results in a translational context.
  • Maintain and document reproducible workflows using open-source bioinformatics/statistical tools (e.g., PLINK, R, Python, MR-Base, QIIME).
  • Contribute to preparation of publications, reports, presentations, and grant deliverables.
  • Support the development of a project-specific database/knowledge base integrating genetic, microbiome, and clinical information.
