Oct 01 - Oct 31, 2024
This online course provides an opportunity for new/old, busy ethics committee members and health researchers to update their knowledge on Ethics Committee (EC) processes and the research compliances required of researchers.
Course Objectives
The challenges of conducting human health research are technical and financial — and beyond that, they are also moral, requiring us to conduct health research of the highest standards. The main objective of this course is to introduce basic ethical concepts useful for the ethics review of research protocols involving human participants. The materials presented in this course are to serve as a starting-point for a basic understanding of research ethics. It is designed to draw attention to critical issues, without necessarily resolving them. We invite you to read all the modules along with the exercises and complete the entire course. In addition, for it to be of practical application in your regular work, we encourage you to:
• Review a study protocol along with a reading of the relevant portions of this course
• Participate in REC processes/meetings (if possible) and see how the material presented here matches with the conduct of the meeting
• And get back to us for clarifications and also to provide feedback and suggestions on ways to improve the course.
