It has content aimed at a Guide/co-guide/any other faculty interested in improving their knowledge and skills in guiding a post-graduate/doctoral student (or a junior faculty) who is a pursuing a medical or health-related study/thesis.

This course has a structured format that will enable you in assisting a student to getting started on his/her thesis and prepare a proposal/synopsis.

Content and duration

This online course can be taken up at one’s own free time and convenience. It provides an opportunity for current and future guides of postgraduate medical students, doctoral students, or mentors of junior professionals to learn how to guide them in writing a research proposal.

The content is in a structured format with Modules and Units which are arranged sequentially to be able to understand the requirements and guide the student in a logical manner. All the modules are available in the form of asynchronous learning videos. The course consists of 10 modules.

  • The complete duration of this course is 15 hours but it can be completed over a period of 3-4 weeks
  • Upon successful completion, participant will receive a Course Completion certificate from St John’s Research Institute

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:
1. Identify a research topic and guide in the process of Scientific Enquiry
2. Assist with basic pre-requisites for assimilating knowledge, systematic data collection and scientific writing
3. Guide in choosing from available Study Design options, determining Sample size and decide on research methods
4. Guide in drafting a high-quality synopsis/proposal

Course Schedule

Organization and Delivery

The course will be hosted and delivered online by St John’s Research Institute. After successful registration, participants will be issued a ‘username’ and ‘password’. The course can then be accessed anytime via a computer/tablet.
