ICMR One-Week International Course in Health Research Methodology and Evidence Based Medicine (November 23-27, 2015)
We from the Division of Clinical Research & Training (DCRT) at St. John's have been conducting courses in Health Research Methods, Evidence Based Medicine and Data Management in collaboration with McMaster University, Canada and supported by the NIH, USA, since 2009 as part of the Centre of Excellence Program.
In the last 6 years, we have trained close to 1,000 health professionals that include doctors, nurses, pharmacists, ethics committee members, industry professionals, post graduate students, study coordinators, regulatory officials and health policy makers from India and other countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania and the UK.
The Karnataka Medical Council accredited and awarded 6 credit points for this workshop
104 participants attended from 33 institutions from India, Kenya, Singapore and Oman. 36 were clinicians and 68 were are non-clinicians
We had 17 interactive lectures, 4 small group Zen protocol discussions, 3 statistical practical sessions, 4 journal clubs and 4 project presentations.
9 lectures were on health research methods, 4 on evidence based medicine, 2 on statistics and 2 on project management.
This course enabled participants to give essential skills in designing, developing and conducting high quality health research projects and communicating the findings.
Furthermore, most participants expressed that they made wonderful friends and several potential collaborators. This will help them to take on meaningful and large research projects in the near future.
