We from the Division of Clinical Research & Training (DCRT) at St. John's have been conducting courses in Health Research Methods, Evidence Based Medicine and Data Management in collaboration with McMaster University, Canada. Training programme were supported by the NIH, USA, since 2009 as part of the Centre of Excellence Program up to 2014.
The course was designed for faculty and postgraduate students from medical, nursing and pharmacy colleges, ethics committee members, regulators and health policy makers.
In this 11th year of the course, we had 69 participants who represented 27 institutions from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The faculty were from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, St. John’s Research Institute, Bangalore, Eternal Heart Care Centre, Jaipur, AIIMS, Bhopal, McMaster University & University of Toronto, Canada.
We had 22 interactive lectures, 4 small group Zen protocol discussions, 3 statistical practical sessions, 4 journal clubs and 4 project presentations.
The group activities included four journal clubs (Registry/Cross-Sectional Study, Case-Control, Randomised Controlled Trial and Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis) and four project presentations (Registry/Cross-Sectional Design, Cohort Study, Randomised Controlled Trial Design and Case-Control)
The course ended on 18th October 2019, with a valedictory function & Hi-tea at which prizes were distributed. Certificates of CME accreditation and participation were given to candidates who had attended all the sessions. The outcome of the course was to enhance the awareness in clinical research methods and evidence-based practice.
