One-Week Online International Course in Health Research Methodology and Evidence-Based Medicine (November 23-28, 2020)

We from the Division of Clinical Research & Training (DCRT) at St. John's have been conducting courses in Health Research Methods, Evidence-Based Medicine and Data Management in collaboration with McMaster University, Canada. Training programmes were supported by the NIH, USA, since 2009 as part of the Centre of Excellence Program up to 2014.

This online course was designed for faculty and postgraduate students from medical, nursing and pharmacy colleges, ethics committee members, regulators and health policymakers.

In this 12th year of the course, we had 111 participants who represented 40 institutions from India and Sri Lanka.

The faculty were from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, St. John’s Research Institute, Bangalore, Eternal Heart Care Centre, Jaipur, AIIMS, Bhopal, McMaster University & the University of Toronto, Canada.

We had 23 interactive lectures, 4 small group Zen protocol discussions, 3 statistical practical sessions, 4 journal clubs and 4 project presentations.

The group activities included four journal clubs (Registry/Cross-Sectional Study, Case-Control, Randomised Controlled Trial and Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis) and four project presentations (Registry/Cross-Sectional Design, Cohort Study, Randomised Controlled Trial Design and Case-Control)

The course ended on 28th November 2020, with a valedictory function. Certificates of CME accreditation and participation were couriered to candidates who had attended all the sessions. The outcome of the course was to enhance the awareness in clinical research methods and evidence-based practice.
