Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke

The Division of Clinical Research and Training, since its inception has been involved in epidemiological studies and clinical trials with the objective of controlling the rising prevalence of cardiovascular disease in India. Initial efforts in this direction included such large registries and case control studies as the CREATE ACS registry and INTERHEART studies. The investigators from the division were involved in the co-development and national coordination of several large intervention trials such as the OASIS series of trials and the POLYCAP series of trials. In recent years, we have moved on to conceiving and executing studies in knowledge translation (the NIH funded SPREAD/ PREPARE trials and the AMEND program respectively).

Stroke is another primary focus areas of research of the Division of Clinical Research and Training. To this end, we are running a large stroke registry (INSPIRE) across 60 centers in India. We have also coordinated a few large important trials in stroke such as the PROFESS and VITATOPS trials.
