Extending currently accepted markers of metastasis to improve screening is imperative to advance therapy against cancers portraying aggressive phenotypes with poor outcome. Utilizing Drosophila as a model system, our collaborator at IISER, Pune, works on identifying novel metastatic drivers with an aim to augment to the existing understanding of the molecular basis of metastasis. At the Nadathur Lab we verify the identified targets on publically available datasets using in silico analysis and validate them using gene expression (qRT-PCR) and protein expression in our human breast tumor case series built with complete follow-up and outcome information.
